(BUB and I at the first Cat Vid Fest in Minneapolis, MN)

BUB and I would like to apologize the the wonderful folks and fans in Reno, Spokane, Seattle and Boise in regards to the false announcement that BUB would be making an appearance on the Cat Vid Fest tour next week. To be clear, BUB will not be making any appearances at any of the Cat Vid Fest dates currently on the schedule.

To my complete surprise, tickets were sold and the events were advertised with BUB billed as making a “special appearance” without my knowledge or consent.
Please understand that this is NOT the fault of the Walker Arts Center or the fine folks at Cat Vid Fest. We have worked closely with them before, and they are great people that are trying put together a fun and wonderful event that also raises money and awareness for animals in need. Because taking something like this on the road is a big undertaking, they had to hire a third party promotor, and I believe this mistake was the result of an unfortunate miscommunication between the promotion agency (who is used to booking rock bands, not special needs pets), and The Walker.
While BUB does enjoy traveling and does absolutely fine in public settings, I still take great care in ensuring that every trip and special appearance is very carefully planned out with BUB’s best interests in mind. Most of our appearances are organized by me and hosted at animal shelters, which are filled with caring and understanding people who appreciate what we are doing for them. Otherwise, when we do appearances at various events or locations, I go to great lengths to ensure BUB has a quiet, safe place to relax, make sure there is easy access to veterinary assistance in case of an emergency, that there are plenty of volunteers to help with crowd control, that there is a charitable aspect to the event, and variety of other variables.

So when I was originally asked if BUB could appear on this tour, I explained that it was possible, but we would need to do a lot of planning to ensure that she was safe and comfortable in every venue, that the travel schedule was reasonable, that the accommodations and transportation were well planned with BUB in mind, that the messaging fell in line with what BUB is all about, and many other details.  As you can imagine, traveling from city to city and planning something like this in big venues with lights, sound systems and big crowds would require a lot of planning to ensure it was 100% safe for BUB. But before we even began this discussion, I was already seeing press releases announcing BUB’s participation. I asked repeatedly for this to be corrected but nothing was done until a week before the event dates, which is the reason for this post.

Please understand that this was totally out of my hands. Even still, it really upsets me that so many BUB fans may feel mislead or let down. As you know this is the last thing BUB (and I) would ever want to do. I also hope you all understand that my number one priority, from the very beginning of all of this, is BUB’s health and safety. Some may think I am a little too overprotective and demanding when it comes to that, but if that’s what it means to guarantee that BUB is safe, then that’s what I have to do. The only way I will agree to do anything like this with BUB is if I know her comfort and safety come before everything else, no matter what. Unfortunately there just wasn’t enough time to plan this particular event properly, but I hope that  we will be able to work with Cat Vid Fest on organizing some future appearances together.

Sorry for this long and rambling post, sorry for the confusion, and thanks for understanding.
